Method one you need to use the hammer and nails to the lower side of the timber. Use stainless nails, pins or the plastic capped nails this will prevent corrosion.
The second method is fixing the soffit in a UPVC that is not attached to the wall. It is advisable to use screw drivers.

After fixing the soffit, put the fascia board using shank nails with stainless steel to prevent rust on the fascia. Use two nails to double fix to ensure it is fixed permanently.

After fixing the fascia and soffit completely install the rain water system. Also fix the gutters with a fall slightly to allow water to flow through.
After firmly installing the gutters install the Eaves protector or strips which helps in preventing condensation thus no damping.

Return the roof tiles to where they were and make sure the whole place is neat for sealing

2. Flaking paint and cracked paint
